A combination of the highest quality durum wheat that highlights the special character of Penne Rigate, in which all the passion and experience of more than 100 years of pasta making can be felt_ Barilla's short Penne Rigate N_73 pasta is a high-quality durum wheat pasta, with a cylindrical shape and a ribbed texture on the outside, ideal for retaining sauces_ The package contains 500g of pasta, which is perfect for pasta dishes with rich sauces, such as tomato, meat or cheese sauces_ These penne rigate are easy to prepare and can be used in various traditional Italian or personalized recipes_ They can be cooked in approximately 10 minutes, having a firm consistency and a special aroma_ Penne Rigate with tomato and basil sauce Ingredients: 500g Penne Rigate Barilla 400g canned tomatoes (or 4 large fresh tomatoes) 2 cloves garlic 2 tablespoons olive oil 1/2 teaspoon sugar (to balance the acidity of the tomatoes) 1 teaspoon dried oregano (optional) Fresh basil leaves Salt and pepper to taste Grated Parmesan for serving (optional) Instructions: Cook the pasta: In a large pot of salted water, boil the Barilla Penne Rigate according to the package instructions (about 10 minutes) until al dente. Once done, drain and reserve a little of the cooking water to add to the sauce, if necessary. Prepare the tomato sauce: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the 2 finely chopped garlic cloves and let them brown slightly (about 1 minute)_ Add the chopped tomatoes (if fresh) or canned tomatoes (removing the skin is optional) and simmer for 10_15 minutes, until the sauce thickens_ If it is too acidic, add half a teaspoon of sugar_ Season with salt, pepper and oregano (if using) and simmer for a few minutes to infuse the flavors_ Combine the pasta with the sauce: Add the cooked pasta to the tomato sauce and mix well to coat evenly_ If the sauce is too thick, you can add a little pasta water_ Leave it on low heat for 2_3 minutes to blend the flavors_ Finishing and serving: Serve the pasta on plates, adding fresh basil leaves on top and, if desired, sprinkle with grated parmesan_ Optionally, you can add a dash of extra_virgin olive oil for a more intense taste_ Enjoy!
