Agave inulin obtained from Tequilana Weber (Blue Agave) is a soluble fiber and a natural prebiotic, ideal for use as an ingredient in food products for fiber enrichment. Due to its anomeric configuration, it resists hydrolysis by digestive enzymes. Due to the minimal hydrolysis that fructans, such as agave inulin, undergo from the moment they are ingested until they reach the large intestine, carbohydrates pass through the digestive system without being digested until they reach the colon. Being a selective substrate for a limited number of good bacteria for the colon (bifidobacteria and lactobacilli), its growth is stimulated and, therefore, it is able to modify the colonic microflora to a potentially healthier population. Agave inulin also increases the absorption of calcium and magnesium, resulting in clear health benefits, such as increasing bone strength and reducing the risks of developing osteoporosis.
