Description
Silk suture (Silk – SK) is a sterile non-absorbable surgical thread, composed of fibroin – a protein extracted from natural silk. This protein is obtained from silkworms belonging to the Bombyx Mori species, family Bombycidae. The threads undergo a process of removing sericin (a natural gum contained in these threads) and waxes and are then spun, braided and coated with wax or silicone to give them a smoother surface and greater tensile strength. D-tek SK meets all the requirements imposed by the United States Pharmacopeia (U.S.P.) and the European Pharmacopoeia for sterility and non-absorbable suture materials. Features: - Silk 75cm - Triangle needle- 3/8 curved - USP 0- sterile EO Packaging: 12 pcs / box Indications: SK is used in general surgery. It is indicated for soft tissue suturing and ligation, including in ophthalmic surgery, cardiovascular surgery and neurosurgery. Action: Surgical procedures using SK may be followed by minimal inflammatory reactions, this being a normal reaction of the body to a foreign body; this is followed by a gradual encapsulation of the thread by a fibrous test. SK suture material is non-absorbable, however, the tensile strength gradually decreases over time, which is why D-tek SK cannot be used when a longer time is required for wound healing.
